Angel of Goliad – Francisca Alvarez – Texas Revolution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

The Angel of Goliad Society provides this Texas Historical information web page to the public for educational purposes.\u00a0 It focuses on the Angel of Goliad’s involvement in the Texas Revolution and helps readers learn more about the Angel of Goliad, also known as Francisca Alvarez.\u00a0 It is intended to answer the questions: Who was the Angel of Goliad, why was she such a mystery, and who are her descendants?<\/p>\n

Within this web page, we will also provide various stories about the men who were killed and the young men who survived during the Goliad Massacre in March 1836 because of the heroic actions of the Angel of Goliad.<\/p>\n

The AOG Society is actively recruiting members and friends to help us keep the memory of Francisca Alvarez alive well into the 21st century. We will announce events throughout the year and will post the activities there as soon as we can. There will be events scheduled throughout the year, including the Goliad Massacre Reenactment at Presidio La Bahia in Goliad, TX; a descendant reunion in Kingsville, TX; and the King Ranch Breakfast at King Ranch.\u00a0 Please go to our News and Events pages for more information.<\/p>\n

\"Angel<\/h4>\n

The Harold Babin Jessen mural is entitled \u201cPageant of Texas,\u201d was created with funding from the Public Works of Art Project in the 1930s, and is currently located within the museum walls in Mission of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Esp\u00edritu Santo de Zu\u00f1iga, at the Goliad State Park and Historic Site. This mural was once displayed at the Texas State Capitol. In the original painting at the Goliad State Park mission, you can see where Jessen painted himself in the bottom-right corner.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n
